Lottie, but make it modern

I love Lottie. I love her so much. She will forever be one of my very favorite quilt patterns. Even with allllll of the HSTs, I still love her. And here's why: she always turns out so pretty. I'm all for fun and complicated quilts where you gotta get the colors just right because that's a challenge and that's fun to me--and when it works out, it's amazing.

But I also love a quilt you can throw some FQs at and it just shines. And that's what Lottie does.

I also love that even though there's a million HSTs in it, the blocks are large, so you only make 9 for a good size throw and you've got a quilt top! That is so nice.

When Suzy Quilts reached out with her new Wildflower Wovens fabrics for Art Gallery and offered to send me some pre-release, it was an obvious, YES PLEASE. I've loved sewing with wovens for a while now because they make the best quilts. (that's a blog post for another day) But then you combine that love with Suzy's effortless style and wow. These fabrics are just fantastic.

For this version I decided to change up the sashing a bit for no real reason other than I wanted to try something new. I omitted the larger sashing and cornerstones and instead added 1.5" strips. I think it turned out so great. I has a modern and clean feel that just works so well with these wovens and their beautiful colors.

For the between block sashings, you'll need to cut your new strips to (6) 1.5"x 21". Use these when you sew your rows together in between the blocks.

For the longer sashing strip that goes between the rows of blocks, I like to sew one long continual strip and then trim off the ends after I've sewn. I learned this trick from Denyse Schmidt in one of her books and I think it's genius. This way you don't have seams that only kind of line up in your sashing strips throughout the quilt. Smart, right?? So I sewed (3) 1.5"x WOF strips for this version since these wovens are wider at 54". If you're using regular quilting cottons, you will need (4) 1.5"x WOF strips. Sew those RST at the 1.5" cut and press the seams as you desire.

Annnnddd then I'd probably recommend sending your Lottie off to Stitched by Alexis for some gorgeous longarming (and photos??!! I mean WOW!). You will not regret it.

Happy sewing, friends!
